Intense & Timely Video Shows How to Survive Mass Shooting

August 3, 2012 By Katerina Williamson Leave a Comment

This post has nothing to do with marketing, but after watching this video, I wanted to share it with others, especially in light of the Aurora, CO shooting at the movie theater couple weeks ago.

The video, produced by The City of Houston Mayor’s Office of Public Safety and Homeland Security, was released less than a week after the tragic shooting in Aurora, Colorado. According to the Mayor’s Office in Houston, it “provides key steps individuals should take if they encounter an active shooter.”

Run, Hide, Fight: three words of advice given from the video above for anybody in the midst of a mass shooting.

In the video, a lone gunman armed with a shotgun goes on a bloody and graphic rampage through an office building. He quickly kills a security guard and a number of people while other office workers scramble to escape or defend themselves from the onslaught.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims of Aurora’s tragic shooting, along with their friends, family and community,” said Houston Mayor Annise Parker in a press release. “I can’t imagine the horror and grief. If it is at all possible for any good to come out of it, perhaps it can be letting people know the options to consider if it happens again.”

Production on the video wrapped up only two weeks before the Colorado shooting, according to Chron.com.

“We didn’t release it at the time because we didn’t know it was relevant. Now it is,” Dennis J. Storemski, head of the department which produced the video, told Chorn.com.

What do you think of the video?
