Have you friended people on Facebook that you would rather not hear from too often? Are you keeping them there not to hurt their feelings, but you really don’t care about what their cat ate for breakfast?
Facebook announced an “Acquaintenances” list of friends, which they introduced last year, but have not made public until yesterday. Facebook can now auto-deterine the friends that you are not interacting with often and lets you add them to your acquantenances list.
Once added to that list, these people still stay as your friends, but you will not see their posts on your News Feed as often. In addition, these friends have no idea that their updates have been diminished from your view, so you won’t have any awkward social consequences from this action.
